Genachowski’s Thumbs-Up for Mobile Broadband Growth
In a heartening address at the Wireless IT & Entertainment show in California, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski expressed his faith in mobile broadband as a significant contributor to America’s economy at present and in the near future.
In his address, Mr Genachowski spoke about steps being taken to resolve the spectrum and neutrality issues. In this context, he announced allocation of a broader spectrum for broadcast.
Speaking at the show, the chairman reiterated his faith in mobile internet as a crucial player in determining America’s digital future. He commented on the rapid growth of mobile broadband from being just a distant dream to an absolute necessity today. Corporates and individuals alike, mobile broadband has taken the internet industry by storm with its huge advantages of flexibility and mobility for the user, he added.
Genachowski assured that the FCC would continue to support and encourage growth in the internet sector by proactively resolving issues that may hinder the growth or evolution of mobile broadband. On the issue of net neutrality, Genachowski was careful not to ruffle any feathers and agreed that fixed and wireless operators have very different and unique systems and operations. Common regulations to tackle issues cannot be applied reasonably and fairly to both, he added.
