The Energy Waste Dilemma

Date: 04-23-06

With the price of gasoline on the upswing(again, April 20, 06), there seems to be little sign that we Americans are at least trying to conserve fuel, though there are pockets of concerned groups that are making their voice heard, mainly against Oil Company price gouging. At the same time the automotive advertising media seems to be pushing the higher gas consumption Suv’s and cars. Granted, along with trucks, etc., these are the prime fossil fuel guzzlers, but they are by no means the only culprit for our increasing fuel dependency, be it fossil or renewable.

With all due respect to mr. Edison, inventor of our non-directly fueled commercial lighting system, which was design for practicality and therefore efficiency at the time had not been entered into the picture. The goal was only to provide a method of supplying the world with inexpensive, widely available commercial lighting. From this gigantic effort, we know, the incandescent light bulb was born. This achievement was, at the time, a monumental gift to the world…, but the future would reveal some flaws.

This virtually unchanged technology is still the top lighting source used today. For decades, the incandescent light bulb had little or no competition. Over this time, It has maintained the lowest cost per light unit of output(brightness) than any other lighting technology. All of this time its shortcummings were not challenged, or at least not so heavily, until a much newer technology, the LED(Light Emitting Diode) made its phenominal technological advances in recent years…by surpassing it in light output for the power consumed. All that remains for the LED is the cost per lumen of light output to drop to a competitive level. Given the present LED disparity with the incandescent, the total advantages of LED technology far outweighs this because of its longevity of operation, which is over 10 years in constant use(under most conditions), it is virtually unbreakable and because LEDs give off so little heat due to their much greater efficiency and thus lower operating cost, it far outweighs its present day greater price structure.

Consumer Demand For The LED Is The Key
======================================

As the demand levels for this new breed of basic “tear drop” solid state light source increases, the price will come down some more and it will eventually reach that price competitive barrier. Of course, production quantities alone will not be the only influence determining the final selling price of the LED lamp to the “home lighting” market, for example, but its total monetary value to this particular market.

We would certainly hope that the LED would eventually replace most our present day lighting
sources, saving the nation…to begin with untold billions of dollars per year, but even
if this were possible today, just a little over 20 % of our energy consumption is used for lighting, so this alone would not solve our total energy problems, but it is certainly a beginning. It will take a national and multi-national effort to even begin to level off
the world energy needs through the use of Renewables. It could certainly and quickly reach
a point that an all out global effort will be needed to ebb the ongoing crisis and if not curbed quickly at that point, I believe it may reach a point of…irreversability.

Betting Room Taking a Chance: a Simple Guide to Card-Playing

Assuming you gaming establishment odds, you’ll find more about this topic here… The most common definition of a betting house is a house that organizes card playing. Patrons can play handling the one-armed-bandits or different betting games. Betting hall games may include ovious chances constituting them which promise the organization possesses an advantage over the gaming fans.

Countless gambling house games can sway you into getting hooked very rapidly. An example is the famous slotmachine, a coin operated appliance with 3+ discs which revolve when a handle latched onto it is pulled. The appliance generally renders according to a set arrangement of glyphs displayed on the screen of the contraption. Deplorably, betting saloon games encourage the mirage of domination, effectively deluding the patron — the participant is tasked with alternatives, but in reality they can never really eliminate the customer’s odds. That is caused by the the casino never refunding the full amount as hoped for. This arrangement is frequently seen at work in popular casino games like straight poker, dice, roulette or blackjack.

Seven-card stud poker is certainly an immensely popular casino pastime. The gambling enthusiasts, holding either fully or partially covered cards, make wagers into a pot in the center that is awarded to the winning gamester in possession of the leading hand. (Of course, the shameless bluffer may win too.) Analogous to five-card stud, blackjack too is an incredibly fashionable casino pastime. A considerable chunk of its reputation is grounded in its particular mix of luck and proficiency & decision making, as well as a praxis identified as “counting”. It is a craft in which gaming aficionados will turn the chances of the game to their personal gain both by wagering & strategy actions according to the hands shown.

Craps is another acclaimed game where players try to foresee the roll of two dice. Craps buffs can place their money on the result of one cycle, or on a succession of rolls of 2 dice. Dissimilar to blackjack, there just isn’t any feasible sustainable killer betting system people could play on to improve the chances. Roulette is another famous gambling pastime; a croupier twists a roulette wheel which encloses a set of thirty-seven (European roulette) or thirtyeight (American or Vegas roulette) separately marked pockets in which the rolling pellet must settle, thereby deciding the winning number Supposing that the gamester happens to set their stake on a number which makes it big so it’s indeed lucky, the guaranteed profit is going to be thirty-five to one, the bet itself is given back. Indeed in total it is increased by thirty six.

Please try to be very very wary notwithstanding for most of such betting establishment games of luck are categorically addiction forming. Too many lives are known to have been damaged in the course of uncontrolled gambling + although it seems like a lot of fun, do try to govern oneself.

Microsoft Anti-Spyware: Is That An Oxymoron?

If you read Site Pro News (or if you don’t), a recent article suggested four types of Spyware protection - anti-virus, Spybot S&D, Microsoft Anti-Spyware and keeping them all updated.

Now I don’t know about you, but with Microsoft’s track record, I’m not crazy about installing any additional software from them, especially something that hasn’t been out that long and is geared toward searching my computer and deleting stuff.

Mind you, that’s what anti-virus tools and Spybot do, but I trust those programs. Microsoft likes to think they own your computer just because their software is on it. “Me no like.”

If you have no affiliation with Microsoft and no bias toward their products, let me know if you have used Microsoft Anti-Spyware and what you think.

Network Security - All About Firewalls

The Importance of Firewalls to Network Security

Most networks should have a firewall in place before they are up and running. A firewall is the most common form of network security employed by companies large and small. If you own a personal computer your anti-virus software company may at one time or another have offered you firewall protection.

A firewall on a home network is just as important as one on a corporate network. Why? Most smaller networks have as many security issues that larger corporate networks have. A firewall helps protect a network against potential data loss, corruption and hackers.

What Is A Firewall

A firewall is nothing more than a fancy term used to describe a blockade that prevents outside forces from accessing your network. It is called a firewall because it prevent information or data loss from one place to another. Typically a firewall is some program or hardware that you have to install in your computer that helps filter information coming from the Web to your computer network. A firewall provides a series of filters that screens information allowing only safe information to pass through to your network.

In a large company, multiple computers are often linked using network cards. Companies usually provide multiple connections to the Internet. In order to protect all of these computers a firewall is necessary so that only certain people can access corporate computers through the Web (those that are authorized to do so). While a firewall is not foolproof it basically does a good job of protecting computers from Internet threats at their connection points.

Chronic fatigue symptoms : Causes and solutions

Copyright 2005 Marc Deschamps

Chronic fatigue symptoms are different from drowsiness. In general, drowsiness is feeling the need to sleep, while fatigue is a lack of energy and motivation. Drowsiness and apathy (a feeling of indifference or not caring about what happens) can be symptoms of fatigue. Fatigue is a feeling of weariness, tiredness, or lack of energy.

Fatigue can be a normal and important response to physical exertion, emotional stress, boredom, or lack of sleep. However, it can also be a nonspecific sign of a more serious psychological or physical disorder. When fatigue is not relieved by enough sleep, good nutrition, or a low-stress environment, it should be evaluated by your doctor. Because fatigue is a common complaint, sometimes a potentially serious cause may be overlooked.

The pattern of chronic fatigue symptoms may help your doctor determine its underlying cause. For example, if you wake up in the morning rested but rapidly develop fatigue with activity, you may have an ongoing physical condition like an underactive thyroid. On the other hand, if you wake up with a low level of energy and have fatigue that lasts throughout the day, you may be depressed.

Common Causes of chronic fatigue symptoms

There are many possible physical and psychological causes of chronic fatigue symptoms. Some of the more common are:

-Anemia (including iron deficiency anemia) -Sleep disorders like ongoing insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, or narcolepsy -Ongoing pain -An allergy that leads to hay fever or asthma -An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) -Use of alcohol or illegal drugs like cocaine, especially with regular use -Depression or grief

Chronic fatigue symptoms can also accompany the following illnesses:

-Infection, especially one that takes a long time to recover from or treat, like bacterial endocarditis (infection of the heart muscle or valves), parasitic infections, AIDS, tuberculosis, and mononucleosis -Congestive heart failure -Diabetes -Chronic liver or kidney disease -Addison’s disease -Anorexia or other eating disorders -Arthritis, including juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, which affects children and teens -Autoimmune diseases such as lupus -Malnutrition -Cancer

Certain medications may also cause drowsiness or fatigue, including antihistamines for allergies, blood pressure medicines, sleeping pills, steroids, and diuretics.

Home Care for Chronic fatigue symptoms

Here are some tips for reducing Chronic fatigue symptoms :

-Get adequate, regular, and consistent amounts of sleep each night. -Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet and drink plenty of water throughout the day. -Exercise regularly. -Learn better ways to relax. Try yoga or meditation. -Maintain a reasonable work and personal schedule. -Change your stressful circumstances, if possible. For example, switch jobs, take a vacation, and deal directly with problems in a relationship. -Take a multivitamin. Talk to your doctor about what is best for you. -Avoid alcohol, nicotine, and drug use. -Consider a natural remedy.

Buy Cheap Cycling Equipment on the Internet

There are a couple of things you’ll require to obtain when you commence cycling. The first and most understandable is a quality bike that suits you! Though that may perhaps seem like a no-brainer, lots of people start out on bicycles that are either too small, or manufactured with poor quality components, just because they’re a great deal cheaper. The right fit & a well built racing bike can make your trip a lot better, nonetheless, do not be enticed to bargain shop for your bike. Instead, buy one that will survive you a long time. Once you have a bicycle that is fitting for you, it is time to get the other cycling items that will assist you in becoming an enthusiastic cyclist.

Lights: The minimum required by UK law for your bike is a few reflectors. Although a headlight and tail light are helpful, even throughout the day. When it is dark and rainy, they can make a tremendous difference in your visibility to vehicles.

Tools: Just like driving a motor car, accidents do happen while you are cycling. Therefore, it is important that you keep some kind of tool kit with you at all times to take care of flat tyres, uncooperative chains, loose bolts & any other issues.

Helmet: Whilst it is legal in most locations to go without a helmet, in loads of others, one is vital. If you’re aiming to bike frequently, it is intelligent to have one even in places where no helmet law exists.

Clothing: While special cycling clothing is certainly optional, it is prudent to pay attention to what you’re wearing. Loose clothes should be avoided, or tucked up so they don’t get wedged in the chain. Find a wide selection of cycling items today at Sportswear-Equipment.com.

Locks: Unless you’re lucky enough to live in a location where you are able keep your bicycle inside all the time, combination lock is imperative. Even in rural areas, there are people who will willingly pinch and resell your bicycle.

7 Stupid Wedding Mistakes Even Smart Couples Make

“What in the world could they have been thinking?”

Definitely words you DON’T want to hear your guests uttering at your wedding. But despite your best intentions, sometimes things slip through the cracks. Sometimes you make a really silly mistake that, if you had just stopped and thought about it for a few minutes, never would have happened. The problem is that many brides and grooms are so darn busy trying to manage everything else that’s going on - from housing out-of-town guests to dealing with last-minute cancellations or additions to the guest list — they simply overlook the obvious. That’s when smart people wind up making really stupid mistakes. Here are seven common slip-ups that can ruin an otherwise perfect ceremony.

1. Failing to Thank the Guests

They came to the wedding. They brought gifts. They stopped and congratulated you and took time out of their busy lives to help you celebrate the joining of you and your beloved in a new life together. Don’t leave the reception hall without saying thank you!

2. Speaking While Intoxicated

This one should be a new form of misdemeanor. If your wedding traditions include the bride or groom making a speech to the assembled guests, do it before you enjoy the free bar. You’ll be thankful later when you watch the wedding videos, and you won’t have to apologize to people you don’t remember insulting.

3. Beware the Infamous “Wardrobe Malfunction”

Black underwear, white dress. It was a bad idea in elementary school, and it’s still a bad idea today. Check in a mirror in various lighting situations to make sure that your dress isn’t sheer or invisible in certain conditions prior to the ceremony. If you are renting a tux, check it for rips and make sure you have it fitted before you bring it home. Also, black is the only acceptable color for a tuxedo.

4. Late to the Altar

Not only is this one inconsiderate to the guests and your soon-to-be spouse, but it also wreaks havoc on your vendors. Ice sculptures melt, food gets cold, and photographers lose needed time to pose people and get those still shots for memory albums. The only reason you should ever be late to your own wedding would be something completely beyond your control - like a force of nature.

5. Running out of Food/Drinks

You made the guest list. You know how many people you expect to be there. Running out of food is a good way to make sure your guests feel unappreciated and is inexcusable. This is not the place to save money. Make sure you have enough dinner and drinks for all who are expected to attend; it’s better to throw some away than have hungry guests and nothing to feed them.

6. Know Where the Ring Is Before Walking Down the Aisle

It happens more than you might think. The best man is supposed to be holding the rings, and he leaves them in his other coat. The bride expects them to be brought on a pillow but the ring-bearer is only eight and thought they were golden Barbie doll crowns. Do one more spot check for the rings before you start down the aisle and you won’t have to worry about an awkward moment and a ruined ceremony.

7. Inviting Your “Ex” - Without Telling Anyone

Unless there is an extremely good reason for inviting your ex-boyfriend or ex-wife, don’t do it. It makes everyone uncomfortable. A close corollary to this is not letting members of the wedding party know what your betrothed’s name is (yes, it sounds unbelievable but it DOES happen). If you have not been engaged for a long time, or you recently ended a long-standing relationship prior to your wedding and your wedding party isn’t familiar with your intended, make sure you introduce them. You don’t want to deal with a wedding toast to you and your ex-girlfriend because the best man didn’t know your bride’s name!
